Project Name: NMIA Fuel Hydrant Enhancement Programme
Location: Montego Bay, St. James
The project involved (1) the installation, test and commission of a foam fire water system to protect the fuel farm, (2) the replacement of two underground horizontal storage tanks with one single aboveground vertical storage tank for aviation fuel having a capacity of 560,000 litres and (3) the installation of a tank high-level alarm and shutoff system for the truck unloading facility and other works to include the replacement of knife gate valves, upgrade unloading facilities, replacement of tank farm electrical switch installation of flow meter, re-grade site and appurtenance facilities.
NOWAL was the lead consultant for the design and contract administration of rehabilitation of the aviation fuel tanks at NMIA. The project required careful planning to ensure that the airport’s operations were unaffected, and environmental remediation of the contaminated soils in the existing fuel farm.
